New York is a city located in the northwestern United States and it has 19,542,209 inhabitants. It is divided in five districts: Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island.
Manhattan is in the middle of New York City. The Island is approximately 12 miles (19.31 km) long and 2.5 miles (4.02 km) wide. The most famous touristic places of the city are in Manhattan. Are they: Wall Street, Central Park, Times Square and Empire State Building.
Bronx is the district located right in the north of Manhattan. It is the only district that is not an Island or part of one. Also is where the Yankee Stadium and Bronx Zoo are.
Queens is the district east of Manhattan and Bronx. The biggest airports of the city are in Queens: JFK and LaGuardia. Queens is a world of its own, with big mixture of nationalities.
Brooklyn is in southeastern of Manhattan, at the other side of the East River. Is where the Brooklyn Museum of Art is, who has one of the world’s largest collections of Egyptian objects.
Staten Island is in the South of Manhattan. Is possible to get to the island by ferry or by crossing the bridges from Brooklyn and New Jersey.
The most important monument of New York isn’t in any district, it is in the Liberty Island. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France to the United States for the first centenary of the Declaration of Independence, signed on July 4 of 1776.
The most popular festivities in the United States are Halloween, New Year, Christmas, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, President’s Day and Memory Day.
Burger, Pizza, Hot dog and Cheesecake are the most common foods in America and in NYC. In fact, the best donuts of the city is from Daily Provisions – and it is the best way to start the day.
NYC has also some curiosities. For example, when you go out of a place, you normally tell people to «have a good day». If you go to a restaurant any day of the week, it’s very likely to be full. And lastly, New York was called New Amsterdam before the decision of the actual name… Interesting, isn’t?
